The Coastal Urban Co-operative Bank, a bank with a difference designed for the indigent fishermen of inland and coastal strip of Kollam was founded in 1950 by Sri. Raphael J Rodriguez (former MLA, Travancore-Cochin Government)
Since its inception, with the able guidance of a dedicated team, the institution functioned in a truly professional and systematic manner which enabled it to obtain the RBI License in 1986. This was a milestone which enhanced the reputation of the bank so as to make it compatible with the nationalised bank and thereby further cemented the trust of the general public.
Though the institution was initiated for the upliftment of the members of the fishermen community especially for their economic ventures and to encourage thrift among them, the institution blossomed into a mammoth financial hub for the public at large, with all the features of a full-fledged bank.
Today, the Bank has completed 73 years of glorious existence, exploring and explaining its network of business through its nine branches monitored and administered by the Head Office situated in its own premises near the Kollam Collectorate. The Bank has 426 crores of deposits, 292 crores of advances and has a total turnover of 718 crore.
In this era of digitization, the bank has transformed itself to meet the challenges of the present day banking technologies. The bank today is equipped enough to extend full-fledged range of services to its compatible to the nationalised and scheduled banks will all new gen-banking facilities.
Different loan schemes, made to suit the need of various customers are being operated successfully by the bank. Amongst its proud achievements, it is worth to maintain that Coastal Bank is the only Urban Co-operative Bank in the state to generously distribute large amounts in micro finance focus to marginal and the underprivileged.
The Bank also offers a wide range of alternative deposit schemes which is patronized by a large member of its customers.
